Becker's Hospital Review this week released the 2016 edition of its list of 100 Hospital and Health System CIOs to Know, and Springhill Medical Center's CIO, Mark Kilborn, was among those honored.
"I am overwhelmed," said Mr. Kilborn, who has been with the hospital for 17 years. "Any recognition I’ve earned here at Springhill has been because of the efforts of my colleagues here in IT and the Springhill family who use the technology so efficiently."
The executives are leading their organizations through healthcare's technology revolution, overseeing EHR installations, new patient portals and telemedicine advancements while working to keep data secure from breaches, among countless other priorities.
The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected leaders for this list based on editorial research and discretion, including prominent CIOs and those who head up IT for some of the nation's largest and most respected hospitals and health systems.
For nearly 30 years, Mr. Kilborn served as the operations manager of a local hospital. In 2000, Mr. Kilborn became area vice president of Allscripts Professional Services and CIO of Springhill Medical Center. Springhill made headlines in early 2015 when it became the first hospital in Alabama to achieve HIMSS Stage 7 Ambulatory Award — one of many advancements the facility has made in EHR implementation during Mr. Kilborn's tenure.
